Root Canal Treatment
in Mississauga

Root canals have a bad reputation they don’t deserve. We promise.

For most patients, the idea of a root canal sounds worse than the procedure actually is. At Destiny Dental in Mississauga, we use modern techniques and effective anesthesia to make root canal treatment as comfortable as any other dental appointment. And we save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted.

ABOUT THIS SERVICE

What is a Root Canal?

Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When that pulp becomes infected or inflamed, usually from deep decay that wasn’t caught at a regular dental exam, a crack, or a traumatic impact, it needs to be removed. That’s what a root canal does.

We numb the area, remove the infected pulp, clean and shape the canals, fill them with a biocompatible material, and seal the tooth. Most teeth that receive root canal treatment are then covered with a dental crown to protect them long-term. The tooth stays in place, you keep your smile intact, and the pain from the infection goes away.

WHO CAN BENEFIT

Do You Need a Root Canal?

Not every toothache means a root canal. But certain symptoms suggest the pulp may be infected and need attention. If you’re experiencing any of the following, come in sooner rather than later. Left untreated, dental infections can spread and may eventually require oral surgery instead.

Severe tooth pain

A persistent, deep ache in a tooth, especially when pressure is applied, is one of the clearest signs of pulp involvement.

Prolonged sensitivity

Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn't go away after the temperature is removed may indicate pulp damage.

Swollen or tender gums

Swelling, tenderness, or a small bump near a tooth can indicate an abscess. This can also be a sign of advanced gum disease and needs prompt attention either way.

Darkening of a tooth

A tooth that has become significantly darker without an obvious cause may have internal pulp damage.

Heavily restored tooth

Teeth that have had multiple large fillings are more vulnerable to pulp problems over time.

Trauma to the tooth

A tooth that took a strong impact, even if it looks fine, can develop pulp damage that shows up weeks or months later.

Most patients say it feels similar to getting a filling. The area is fully numbed before we begin. Some soreness in the day or two after is normal, usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
Most root canals at our Mississauga clinic are completed in one to two appointments. Complex cases or heavily infected teeth may require two visits.
The infection won’t go away on its own. It will spread, potentially into the jaw or surrounding teeth. Eventually the tooth will need extraction. A root canal saves the tooth and clears the infection. It’s almost always the better option.
In most cases, yes. Root canal-treated teeth become more brittle and are more prone to fracture. A crown protects the tooth and significantly extends its life. We can take care of both at our Mississauga clinic.
