ABOUT THIS SERVICE

What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin shells, usually made from porcelain or composite resin, that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They’re custom-shaped and colour-matched to complement your face, your skin tone, and the rest of your teeth. The result looks natural because it’s designed to look natural.

Getting veneers typically takes two to three appointments. We prepare the teeth, take impressions, and have your veneers custom-made in a dental lab. Many patients combine veneers with professional teeth whitening beforehand to get the most complete transformation. For teeth that are more seriously damaged, a dental crown may be the more appropriate choice.

WHO CAN BENEFIT

Is a Veneer Right For You?

Veneers work well for a range of cosmetic concerns. They’re a good fit when teeth are structurally sound but you’d like to change how they look. If there’s underlying decay or damage, we address that first, often with a filling or crown.

Stubborn staining

Some types of discolouration don't respond well to whitening treatments. Veneers cover them permanently.

Chipped or cracked teeth

Minor chips and cracks that don't need a crown can often be fixed beautifully with a veneer.

Uneven or short teeth

If some teeth are shorter or differently shaped than you'd like, veneers can add length and uniformity.

Gaps between teeth

Small gaps between teeth can be closed without braces using veneers sized to fill the space naturally.

Slightly misaligned teeth

If your teeth are mildly crooked and you don't want orthodontics, veneers can create the appearance of a straighter smile.

Complete smile makeover

Veneers are often the core of a full smile transformation, sometimes paired with whitening and other treatments.

Veneers are considered a permanent treatment because a small amount of enamel is removed to place them. Once you have veneers, those teeth will always need to be covered. With proper care, veneers last 10 to 15 years before they may need replacing.
The preparation is done under local anesthetic, so there’s minimal discomfort during the procedure. Some patients experience brief sensitivity after placement, which typically settles on its own.
Porcelain veneers are quite resistant to staining compared to natural enamel. Either way, avoiding heavy coffee, red wine, and smoking will extend how long they look their best. Pairing veneers with occasional touch-up whitening on surrounding natural teeth helps maintain an even result.
A veneer covers only the front surface of a tooth. A crown covers the entire tooth. We recommend veneers when the tooth is structurally sound but you want to change its appearance. If the tooth is damaged or weakened, a crown is usually the better choice.
