ABOUT THIS SERVICE

What Does Oral Surgery Include?

Oral surgery covers a range of procedures involving the teeth, gums, bone, and surrounding structures. The most common procedures we perform are tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth. We always try to save a tooth first, whether through a filling, root canal, or crown. Extraction is the last resort, not the first.

We keep most procedures in-house whenever possible. You already know our team, the environment is familiar, and we coordinate follow-up care seamlessly. If you’ll need a replacement after extraction, we’ll talk you through your options, including dentures or bridges.

Simple and surgical tooth extractions

Wisdom tooth removal

Treatment of dental abscesses

Bone grafting for implant preparation (referral-based)

WHO CAN BENEFIT

Who Might Need Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery isn’t as rare as you might think. Here are some of the most common situations we see at our Mississauga dental clinic.

Impacted wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth that can't erupt properly can cause pain, infection, and damage to nearby teeth. Removal is often the most practical solution.

Broken or unsalvageable teeth

When a tooth is too damaged for a root canal or crown to save it, extraction is the safest option to prevent further problems.

Severe infection or abscess

An abscess that doesn't respond to antibiotics and root canal treatment may require surgical drainage or extraction.

Crowded teeth

Removing one or more teeth can sometimes be necessary before orthodontic treatment to create space for alignment.

Bone loss from gum disease

Advanced periodontal disease can cause bone loss that may require surgical intervention to treat properly.

Preparation for dentures

Some patients need extractions before getting dentures. We coordinate both parts of the process at our Mississauga clinic.

Our friendly team is here to help. Reach out to us anytime for assistance.

A simple extraction takes only a few minutes. A surgical extraction or impacted wisdom tooth removal may take 20 to 45 minutes. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe at your consultation.
The area is numbed thoroughly before we begin. You’ll feel pressure but not pain during the procedure. Soreness afterward is expected and typically peaks in the first 24 to 48 hours before improving.
Most patients feel back to normal within three to five days after a simple extraction. Wisdom tooth removal may take a week to ten days for full comfort. We’ll give you detailed aftercare instructions to make recovery as smooth as possible.
Several good options exist depending on your situation. A dental bridge uses neighbouring teeth for support. Partial or full dentures are another route. We’ll walk you through what makes the most sense for you.
